We reached out to Emily because we wanted to know the inspiration behind her beautiful and serene build and why she chose Scandiluxe products for her bathroom.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR BUILD?
Emily - My inspiration was my neighbourhood. My area is full of beautiful old shacks and cottages with incredible gardens. Everything seems to blend into the landscape as it has always been there. With ours being a new build, I knew it was going to be more modern than these relics, which made it even more critical to inject as much character and personality throughout as possible.
WHY IS USING TIMBER THROUGHOUT YOUR HOME SO IMPORTANT TO YOU?
Emily - Using timber was so important! Our home and view aspect is South facing, so we knew we needed the interior to feel warm and cosy all day. Timber is also timeless. Regardless of trends, timber is a constant. It provides a base for everything else to evolve around.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE SCANDILUXE TIMBER FIXTURES FOR YOUR BATHROOM OVER OTHER BRANDS?
Emily - We chose Scandiluxe timber because it ticked ALL our boxes. Walnut timber fixtures were more challenging to find while we were building, and I couldn't believe it when I found Scandiluxe. The walnut https://scandiluxe.com/collections/luxe-collection/products/classic-5-rung-towel-rack?variant=40012935430305 was a perfect match for the walnut used in our joinery. The classic, sleek design is exactly our style, and the quality is incredible. We can't wait to add some shelving!

It’s no secret that we love working with these incredibly beautiful materials. Along with their element of luxe, solid brass and copper will always be in style. With copper and brass being a natural element its no wonder they work so seamlessly with timber. Create a bold statement or keep it understated and just add touches of it to your decor. There has been a massive oversaturation of imitation copper and brass as of late so pick carefully and make sure you're buying the real deal to avoid looking ‘cheap’.
There has been a huge ethnic influence surrounding Scandinavian style, due to the simplicity, ethnic pieces are easy to incorporate. Don’t be afraid to play with textures and textiles, think rattan pendants, Moroccan rugs and Mexican handwoven fabrics - rustic minimalism come in here also, rustic ceramics, Urn's and linens can add an earthy feel. Keep your colours neutral though as it's easy to detract from that minimal style you're trying to achieve.
Okay - so when it comes to art it gets a little personal, it's all so individual in what each of us like and let's face it, it can be expensive! When styling your Scandai - inspired home with art there's a few things to keep in mind ...
Dark interiors aren’t for everyone but boy does it exude elegance when done well. Dark cabinetry in the kitchen or a feature wall in the bedroom can be all it takes to take your home from everyday ‘Scandi' to a home full of personality and style.
Slight recap regarding my last post and bringing the outside in - plants are a great way to add personality colour and texture - pair with earthy pots, terracotta is on its way back in for 2017, pop one in your kitchen or living, it will bring a touch of warmth interest and colour yet still feel neutral and earthy.

Even though you may live in a place were majority of the year it is light and warm, this pallet still works.
It’s easy, practical and an obvious choice for any home.
Most, if not all Scandinavian homes that have timber flooring have light timber flooring.
This comes down to the nature of the timber that grows there.
While soft woods are more economical and used mainly in Scandinavia (pine, beech and birch)
In Australia cypress and hoop pine is a common light flooring.
Obviously not everyone has the convenience of already having this flooring available to them so you can create a similar look with floating flooring, adhesive plank flooring and bamboo.
An ideal Scandinavian home is functional and liveable, furniture is made with honest materials and beautiful craftsmanship, wood, metal and fabrics.
You could say this is where we found our inspiration behind Scandiluxe, whilst renovating a small 1950’s cottage we lacked space and storage.
That’s where we designed our first wall hook (Kink wall hooks)
Without compromising style this can be easily achieved, The Scandinavians have been doing it for decades.
Minimal ornamentation is what sets Scandinavian decor apart from the rest. Clean lines and simplicity.
Scandinavians favourite accent colour is blue, clearly it stands out against the muted tones.
Copper and brass accents add an element of luxe, whilst glass vases and ceramics create areas for floral arrangements and interesting shapes and texture.
The sweeds love to bring the outside in as much as possible - they have a deep rooted love for nature and while they have many summer days majority of the year can be cool and dark.
They reflect this by bringing in numerous plants. Obviously because each country has its own natural flora choosing what plants suit the best in your climate is important.
When I talk about understated elegance I mean exactly that. Of course, this can mean different things to different people however its core understanding is that it's not complicated and that's exactly what Scandinavian living exudes.
I hope that this post gives you an insight and understanding into where to start when designing your own Scandi - inspired home, starting is always the hardest part.
Next week I'll be talking about trends that compliment Scandinavian interiors, I hope to see you here.
( I'd love to know what you think regarding this post and whether it was helpful? )
